ST MARY MAGDALENE, CLATWORTHY

The 2 Church wardens and the rest of the Parochial Church Council are responsible for the continued running of St Mary’s, under the overall supervision of the Rector of the Benefice. The parishioners contribute towards the Rector’s stipend and fund expenditure on the fabric of the church from savings and fund raising. This is by collections at services, donations [including those made by visitors] and events such as: coffee evenings, sponsored walks and the Harvest Supper. The church also benefits [as does the Brendon Hill Methodist Church and the Village Hall] from the annual village fete. St Mary’s receives no funding from either the Diocese or from central funds. The church runs a number of fund raising/ social events – which are vital for Church funds!

The Christian faith remains strong in this tiny community. There are Holy Communion services in St Mary’s twice a month: on 2nd and 4th Sundays [beginning at 11:15 am] – with a small, constant congregation and with many more at Festivals. There are also occasional baptisms, weddings or funerals.
